A BOROUGH teacher has appeared before Solihull Magistrates after it is alleged he had an affair with one of his pupils.
Kevin Hughes who lives in Wharf Lane faces nine charges including one of engaging in a sexual activity with a child while in a position of trust.
Hughes appeared before magistrates on Tuesday( February 22).
The 29-year-old also faces three charges of possessing indecent images of children, one of downloading indecent images of children and four of engaging in sexual activity with a child.
He did not enter a plea and was given conditional bail.
It is believed the teacher had previously taught maths at St Peter’s Catholic School in Solihull and at the former Archbishop Grimshaw School in Chemsley Wood before working at Lyndon School.
Hughes has been suspended from his job.
Hughes is the third Solihull teacher to be arrested on child sex offences.
Brothers Timothy and Christopher Davis, who were teachers at Monkspath School in Shirley and St Patrick’s CofE School, Earlswood, were arrested last August and charged with making indecent images of children.
Two weeks ago Timothy pleaded guilty at Warwick Crown Court to four charges and was ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register ahead of a sentencing later this month. His brother Christopher will answer eight charges next month.
The headteacher of Lyndon School, Selena Westwood, issued a letter to parents last week reassuring them that Hughes had only taught at the school for two weeks last September and that the alleged offences did not relate to a child at the school.
