Deputy headteacher of Light Hall School, in Shirley, Bob Barr and assistant headteacher, Richard Hall will be taking part in the Big Half Triathlon at Trentham Gardens in Stoke on July 1 to raise funds for Get Kids Going.

The charity provides specially-adapted wheelchairs, costing £3,000 each, so disabled children can take part in sport.

Mr Barr, aged 53, has already raised thousands for Get Kids Going by running the London Marathon for the past few years and is hoping to raise another £1,500 through the triathlon where competitors must swim for 1.2miles, cycle a gruelling 50miles and then run a half marathon for 13.1miles.

“It is great to see disabled children getting enjoyment from sport with these adapted wheelchairs,” said Mr Barr. “We have a student in school who is keen to take part in everything and uses one of these.”

Anyone wanting to sponsor the teachers should call the school on 0121 744 3835.
