A TEAM of animal lovers from Solihull are up for a national award.
The 25 volunteers who staff the PDSA charity shop have been short listed for the Volunteer Team of the Year Award. The close knit team give up their own time to help pets in need of vets.
Some of the staff have been at the Hobs Moat premises since it opened 26 years ago. They regularly go beyond the call of duty, taking on extra shifts and thinking up new ways to raise money for charity.
It was Becky Howe, the shop manager, who nominated her team for this year’s award.
She said: “I think the team deserves special recognition because they have continued to deliver fantastic results year after year, whilst maintaining a great team spirit.
“Over the last three years the shop has raised lots of funds that will go towards treating pets in need of vets. This wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication of the volunteer team.”
The PDSA Volunteer of the Year Awards are now in their sixth year. The short-listed volunteers will be judged on their commitment to PDSA and enthusiasm for their roles, rather than how much time is given or money raised. The winner of the award will be announced in the New Year.
Over 4,800 volunteers help in PDSA’s 179 shops, 47 PetAid hospitals, branches and fund raising groups. To find out more about becoming a volunteer, contact PDSA’s National Volunteering Centre on freephone 0800 854 194 or visit www.pdsa.org.uk/volunteering.
