A FORMER Irish Guard is preparing for a gruelling 145 mile run from London to Birmingham in aid of Help for Heroes.
Jay Wheeler, a fitness trainer from Chelmsley Wood, will lead a team of five as they attempt the run, each carrying a 35lb rucksack, in 36 hours between September 13 and 15.
“We, as a team, feel passionate about doing fit or those out there fighting for our country,” said Jay, 40. “The training is intense and will probably take over most of our lives until we come to completing it in September.”
He will be joined by colleagues at The Club and Spa, Richard Broomhall and Luke Lincoln, both fitness coaches, along with hairdresser Matt Surplice and company director Tom O’Loughlin.
The team will be unable to practice running the full 145 miles before the event so will be training seven days a week, running at a faster pace with heavier weights, clocking up almost 100 miles a week.
“This is incredibly intense training,” Jay added.
“I wouldn’t recommend anyone embark on training at this level without training up to it and being advised by a fitness professional and/or a doctor.”
