Teen cyclist’s death was a tragic accident

A CORONER has recorded that the tragic death of a teenage cyclist was the result of a road traffic accident.

A CORONER has recorded that the tragic death of a teenage cyclist was the result of a road traffic accident.

Brendon Harrison, 13, from Acocks Green was involved in a collision with a car, as he was travelling home.

The accident took place in Pierce Avenue, Olton, on June 10 this year. Brendon received multiple injuries in the crash, and died the next day at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Aidan Cotter, Coroner for Birmingham and Solihull, said the youngster had tried to cross the road, at a dropped kerb between two parked cars.

“He did not see the oncoming car, and the oncoming car did not see him,” he said.

Police investigations found that the car driver had been travelling within the speed limit, and a breath test was negative.

No arrest was made at the time, and no further action was taken by officers.
