Teenager’s body found on wagon

THE body of an Acocks Green teenager, who fell on to the back of an open-top rail wagon, travelled more than 100 miles before it was discovered.

James Sprayson, aged 19, is thought to have fallen on to the back of the train as it passed close to his south Birmingham home.

His body was discovered by workers at a railway yard in Westbury, Wiltshire on October 7.

An investigation to determine the man’s identity was launched by the British Transport Police.

Officers have reviewed CCTV footage and are now satisfied that there were no suspicious circumstances involved.

Brian Price, from the British Transport Police, said: “This is an unusual case. We were initially unsure of where the man had come from but we were able to quickly identify him.

“The incident was initially being treated by British Transport Police as unexplained but officers are now satisfied that there was no third party involvement in the death.”

An inquest has been opened and adjourned by the West Wiltshire Coroner.
