ELMDON Heath songbird Melissa Hollick has moved one step closer to realising her dream.
The teenager was delighted to win West Midlands Pop Stars 2009 - a talent contest open to youngsters from around the region.
Only 16 acts made it through to the grand final - which took place in Walsall last weekend. Despite stiff competition, Melissa wowed the judges with her rendition of Avril Lavigne’s “I Will Be”.
Now the 16-year-old will have the chance to work with a record producer and lay down her first album. And it’s not the first time that the former Lode Heath pupil has entered a contest - she performed well in last year’s UK Songwriting Competition.
“All these concerts, competitions, small gigs etc have been such a good experience and just make me realise how much I really would love to do this as a professional career,” she said.
Having just finished her GCSEs, Melissa is planning to study music at Stratford College - she can already play the guitar and piano and is busy teaching herself the drums. She’s also looking forward to performing one of her own songs at the Rock and Pop Festival - which started at the NIA today (Friday).
