A FIFTY year wait came to an end on Sunday when Keith Saunders finally clinched the Championship Cup at Marsh Lane Bowls Club.
Keith played five games and beat Gary Timmins in the final - the first time he has won the trophy in 50 years of bowling.
Both his sons Scott and Craig had won the trophy twice in previous years, Scott when he was just 15.
Keith, aged 65, from Ebrington Avenue, said: “My two sons have been ribbing me for years as they have won it twice.
“It’s all gone right this year.
“One son got married last week and then I won the cup this week - it put the icing on the cake.
“But I’ve got to win it again next year to keep up with my sons.
“Both sons started about eight or nine.
“It’s a great sport - they know how to win and how to lose.”
