THREE men have been charged with attempted metal theft, following a late-night incident at St Giles Church, Sheldon last week.
Police were called after a passer-by saw people “creeping around” on the scaffold in the early hours of May 1.
Officers were called to the church, in Church Road, at around 3am, and allegedly found two men scaling the structure.
A third suspect was tracked by the force helicopter, using thermal imaging equipment. Two men, aged 21 and 22, from Sheldon, and a 21-year-old man from Shard End will appear at magistrates at a later date.
