Thug who attacked man is sent to jail

A thug who assaulted a man after watching England’s opening World Cup match in a bar has been jailed for six months.

A thug who assaulted a man after watching England’s opening World Cup match in a bar has been jailed for six months.

Jamie Gallett, aged 20, of Tustin Grove, Acocks Green, was jailed at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court last Friday after admitting affray.

Gallett, who had been drinking in Digbeth following England’s stalemate with the USA, was arrested after CCTV operators spotted him attacking an Asian man in High Street before abusing a kebab shop owner.

Detective Constable Michelle Hussey, who was involved in the inquiry into the incident, said: “The sentence and speed with which it was imposed reflects the seriousness with which we treat this type of crime.

“It is also worth mentioning that his friends did try in vain to stop him offending. Because he wouldn’t listen he will now miss the whole World Cup.”

Police are now liaising with the Crown Prosecution Service to obtain a football banning order against Gallett.
