CUSTOMERS were queuing outside Solihull’s John Lewis waiting to grab a bargain on the first day of the store’s biggest sale of the year.
Richard Dearden, managing director at the Solihull store, told us they had an ‘overwhelming’ response to the start of its clearance event, which began on Boxing Day.
Mr Dearden said: “There has been an overwhelmingly positive response to our clearance offer, with customers queuing outside our shop on the first day in anticipation of the bargains on offer.
“Clearance continues the great performance from the business in the run-up to Christmas and we are delighted it has had such a strong start.”
Business has been booming elsewhere in Solihull as shoppers hit the sales for that all important hunt for a genuine bargain.
Touchwood Centre bosses said footfall was up by 62 per cent on Boxing Day alone, with an ‘incredibly busy’ festive period overall.
Footfall was also up in neighbouring Mell Square on Monday, December 26 by 15 per cent.
Meanwhile we took to the streets of Solihull to find out how much people were saving in the sales.
Steph and Sam Smith managed to save a whopping £60 in the sales. The couple splashed out on aftershave and clothes.
Sam said: “There are some really good deals out there at the moment, we were quite surprised.”
Steven Brown saved £9 on a coat from TK Maxx, bought a bargain calender from Clintons for just £1.50 and made some big savings at Marks and Spencer.
Mr Brown told us: “When I look at what I have bought today, I can see I have made some big savings.”
We also hit the sales to find out for ourselves exactly what bargains were up for grabs. The Perfume Shop has slashed the prices of many of its fragrances, including Ted Baker Exclusive for men, now £14.99.
Clothing shops such as East and Laura Ashley have up to half price sales and many of Boots pamper gift sets are half price. You can also stock up on Next’s stylish Christmas decorations for next year, with prices also being slashed to half their original price.
