Tip of iceberg

FURTHER to your recent front page item on proposed housing in Marston Green, I am writing to say that the proposal to which you refer is only the first of several scheduled for Marston Green. Further development is planned for Chelmsley Lane/Coleshill Road, with I believe, 440 new homes, and further industrial development at Blackfirs Lane. Moat House Farm is the tip of the iceberg.

Ironic isn’t it that Titanic was launched 100 years ago this week. These development proposals if they proceed could well be the iceberg that sinks this Council.

All of the early release of land from the green belt is scheduled for Marston Green area, none of it is in the south of the borough.

Why?

This area has suffered dramatically worse than any other part of the borough over the last 40 years. We have seen the airport expansion ( with more on the cards), the NEC, Birmingham Business Park, housing developments nearly doubling the number of houses in the area, and so on and so on.

The residents of Marston Green have decided that enough is enough and are determined that no more development will be tolerated.

So planners and councillors if you value your positions take heed NOW whilst you have the opportunity.

Adrian Mirfin, Chelmsley Lane, Marston Green
