MAY I as an ‘old’ mum state how appalled I am at the proposals to move the more serious maternity cases to Heartlands.
My first son was stillborn in Brook House but with the senior consultant, Mr HB Watson in charge.
Two years later I gave birth to a second son, this time in Netherwood but again under Mr Watson. Had he not been on hand to forceps the baby into the world (in the middle of the night) another stillborn would have arrived.
Seven years later our third son was born, this time in the ‘New Maternity Unit’ that has since been knocked down. This time I had a blue baby with a cord round his neck. Fortunately there was a brand new premature baby unit there under the guidance of Dr Barton.
I would not have had one live baby if I had had to be transferred 40 minutes in an ambulance. I can not speak too highly of the staff at Solihull and their treatment of me in days of old and later my daughter-in-law at the arrival of our two granddaughters.
