SOLIHULL has been ranked as the sixth best town for affordable childcare in the country.
The Family Investments Childcare Affordability report revealed that, on average, parents in Britain pay £4,993 a year for 25 hours of care a week, equivalent to 18.9 per cent of average earnings.
However, Solihull mums and dads get a better deal with just 15.8 per cent of earnings going on childcare due to lower average childcare costs, £4,621 per year, set against higher average earnings of £29,201.
The West Midlands dominated the top ten chart, with Stoke coming in as the most affordable town in the UK, with 13.7 per cent of earnings spent on childcare, closely followed by Shrewsbury at 13.8 per cent.
Ebbw Vale, in Gwent, South Wales was the least affordable where 28.2 per cent of wages was spent on childcare.
