I AM amazed that the Government is prepared to spend billions of pounds of our money in shoring up the banking system but is not giving consideration to curbing excessive expenditure.
One of the most significant items is the £76bn which will be needed to replace the existing Trident nuclear submarine system. In addition to this is our expenditure on Iraq and Afghanistan, where we are needlessly overstretched. Young lives are being wasted in these unwinnable wars.
It would be far better if the Government was to take the more radical step of supporting such a figure as ex-US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger in calling urgently for zero nuclear weaponry worldwide.
