TV drama turns out to be a family affair

A SOLIHULL family is looking forward to spending Christmas in front of - and on - the TV.

Ian Hallard has taken a starring role in Crooked House - a ghost story on BBC4 this week. But the Monkspath actor was pleased when the programme became a family affair and his parents were invited to play extras.

Chris and Chris Shovell (the couple share the name) travelled to Windsor to join their son on set. They were soon clambering into costume and preparing for their acting debut.

“We filmed our scenes under the flightpath of Heathrow Airport - so a plane would fly over every couple of minutes. It was quite a funny experience, they were supposed to be creating a satantic ritual - complete with flaming torches - but the planes kept going over,” said proud mum Chris.

Ian, who went to Solihull School, has made many appearances on stage and screen. In Crooked House, he plays the character of Felix - a man who is drawn into the chilling mystery.

Crooked House will be repeated in full on Saturday, December 27, on BBC4.
