Unemployed graduate opens milkshake bar in Solihull

A MARKETING graduate, who was unable to find work after leaving university, has opened new local milkshake bar Mooties, in Chelmsley Wood.

A MARKETING graduate, who was unable to find work after leaving university, has opened new local milkshake bar Mooties, in Chelmsley Wood.

Jamie Hughes left Leeds Metropolitan University with a 2:2 in marketing in 2011, but after spending 13 months applying to around 10 jobs a day, he decided ‘enough was enough.’

“The catch was, the graduate jobs would say I didn’t have enough experience while the supermarket jobs said I was over-qualified,” said Jamie, from Chelmsley Wood.

“I’d always wanted to have my own business so I thought, if I can’t find a job, I’ll make myself a job.”

With the help of friends and family, the 22-year-old opened Mooties milkshake bar in Chelmsley Wood Inshops earlier this month, offering a choice of over 30 milkshakes, based on different chocolate bars, as well as fruit smoothies and hot drinks.

“My family all chipped in to get it started so that’ll be a bit more pressure to make sure it works,” he added.

“I have a lot of family members who have their own businesses.

“It’s one of the reasons I did a marketing degree.

“But we’ve had good reviews, it’s been very popular since it opened.”
