A PEDESTRIAN died after being hit by several cars on a dual carriageway near Birmingham Airport on Saturday night.

Police are appealing for witnesses after Michael Maher’s body was found on the Coventry bound section of the A45, after suffering what police described as “horrific and multiple” injuries on an unlit section of the road with no pedestrian crossings nearby.

Mr Maher, an out of work draughtsman, was believed to be unmarried and had no children.

Police were called to the scene shortly before 10pm after a motorist saw Mr Maher lying in the road. The 51-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

Specialist officers from the force’s Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene, along with forensic investigators.

Officers are still trying to establish how many vehicles had been involved.

A police spokesman said: “Anyone who was travelling along the road between 9.30pm and 10pm on Saturday night is asked to call police on 0345 113 5000.”
