Vote wisely

WE’LL be voting for Parliament soon, in pretty awful times. I am not in favour of our antiquated system of one-party tyranny based on a minority of people’s votes.

WE’LL be voting for Parliament soon, in pretty awful times. I am not in favour of our antiquated system of one-party tyranny based on a minority of people’s votes. Labour and Tories love it.

I don’t want one party dictating to us. If people agree, I urge them to get out and vote Lib Dem, so there can be a strong Lib Dem group to act as a brake on the policies of the two ugly sisters, who are responsible for most of the mistakes of the last 50 years, and so that wise people like Vince Cable get a say in our government.

Health care

MAY I add my own words of praise for the excellent service received on two occasions at Solihull A &E - the latter including an immediate referral to Heartlands for an MRI scan.

My journey (by taxi) mid-morning in half term took 45 minutes - not something a pregnant woman would relish.

The car park at Heartlands was as always full, I noticed. Surely we should be looking to upgrade maternity services at Solihull, including obstetric and paediatric consultants ‘onhand’, given the growing number of young families in villages like Dickens Heath?

Fair for all

FROM February 22 to March 7, it’s ‘The Big Swap’, part of Fairtrade Fortnight 2010.

Currently, many growers in developing countries produce their crops in the most challenging circumstances, often on the very brink of survival.

During this year’s event organisers want people to buy Fairtrade products where they are available. Solihull Council is doing it’s bit by working towards obtaining the prestigious ‘Fairtrade Borough’ status.

Many thanks

MAY I thank the two young men who helped me when the clutch cable of my car snapped on Wednesday December 23, in Blossomfield Road. I apologise too for the lateness of this letter.

The young men braved not only the dreadful weather, but also the heavy traffic to move my car to the side of the road.

Also, I would like to thank the motorist who stopped to check that we were all right. May I wish these good people a very belated best wishes for 2010.
