SHOPPERS in Solihull were furious to discover they could not redeem gift vouchers at the store from which they were originally purchased.
Michael Mulcahy from Chelmsley Wood had £30 worth of vouchers for the USC store in Touchwood Solihull, but when he reached the till he was told that they would only accept cash because the store is under administration.
Despite trading under the name of USC, staff refused to accept the gift vouchers which resulted in a disagreement between the customers and members of staff.
The police were called to the store and the Touchwood manager was also alerted about the incident.
In the end the latter was forced to temporarily close the store while the situation was resolved.
Michael’s wife Tracy said she was disgusted with the way staff at the shop had treated them and other customers hoping to redeem vouchers at the time.
“We were treated appallingly by the staff,” she said.
“When the police officer arrived I had a few words with the store manager about the attitude of the staff. The sales assistants were not helpful or giving any correct information to any of the customers.”
The store manager on duty at the time refused to comment, but Touchwood shopping centre released the following statement: “Touchwood staff were called to assist an incident regarding a USC gift card on Friday 2 January. In the circumstances they were able to help to the best of their ability.”
