FIRST Sainsbury’s marked Dorridge as a site for ne of their stores and now Waitrose are earmarking nearby Knowle for their latest development.
Reporter Cathrina Hulse ha an exclusive look at the plans proposed for Knowle with developer Philip Pearce from Kimberley Developments.
Flyers have been posted and a public exhibition is taking place today (Friday 15) and Saturday giving villagers and businesses the chance to question the developers about the plans for the St John’s Close area of Knowle.
The company has been working with Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council to explore ways to enhance the centre of Knowle village, following recommendations from the Knowle Conservation Area Appraisal published in 2007.
Keen to point out that Waitrose would not merely be ‘parachuted’ into the village, Mr Pearce said the development would be a mixed use scheme which would see a new village hall built on the present bowling green and crucially the four current council car parks would be amalgamated into one for all the village to utilise.
The Waitrose store is proposed for the site currently home to the Village Hall and 10 new two-bedroomed bungalows would be erected to replace those that would be demolished. Kimberley Developments also said it could create 120 jobs in the community.
The public exhibition takes place on Friday January 15 and Saturday 16 at Knowle Village Hall between 11am and 7pm on Friday and 10am and 4pm on Saturday.
