SOLIHULL College has given a heroes welcome to two tutors who picked up medals at last month’s Commonwealth Games.
Nadine Okyere and Sally Walton have returned to the classroom after earning their place on the podium in Delhi.
Twenty-three-year-old Nadine represented England in the women’s 400 metre relay and picked up a silver medal.
And as we reported a few weeks ago, her colleague Sally Walton, aged 29, earned bronze as part of the women’s hockey team.
They arrived back on home soil a few days ago and were congratulated by staff and students at the college.
For Nadine, a member of the Birchfield Harriers, it was the first time she had competed at international level.
“When I found out I had been selected I was really shocked but excited to be given the chance to compete. It was a great experience but it’s all a bit surreal.”
The pair spent three weeks in India and are already thinking about their next challenge - Sally is on the training squad for the 2012 Olympics.
And who knows? Maybe one of their students will be on the podium in a few years time.
