BBC One Show vet Joe Inglis has warned pet owners about a ‘worrying trend’.
The TV vet, who works part-time at the Pet Vaccination Clinic in Wythall, said in the last six months there has been a ‘big fall’ in the numbers of people having their pets vaccinated.
“We believe this is a result of the economic downturn,” he said.
“At the same time we have seen an increase in the number of pets brought to us with horrible viral diseases like parvovirus, due to not being protected with a simple vaccination.
“Dogs should be vaccinated annually to protect them from fatal infectious diseases that can cause huge suffering and a slow and painful death.
“The healthcare cost involved with treating a sick pet with one of these viral diseases can be huge.
“Vaccinations are vital and should be a part of your regular pet care regime.”
