A DISHEARTENED Olton woman is warning borough residents to watch out for thieves stealing car hardtops after hers was pinched for the second time in four years.
Carolyn Sanford, from Dene Court Road was astounded to find louts had ripped the hardtop roof from her prized MGF sports car when she woke on Tuesday morning.
The criminals had even cheekily climbed onto the porch and shifted the security light away from her pristine red car which had been parked on the drive.
The 65-year-old said: “They knew how to take the roof off without damaging the hardtop - they sell for around £500 on the internet. My car is nine years old and in perfect condition. It’s only done 50,000 miles.”
Carolyn, a self-employed dental nurse and her retired husband John reckon the cost of replacing the hardtop as well as repairs to the lock, scratches and damage to the soft top which was underneath and is used in the summer, will be around £2000.
But the couple, who have five grown up children between them and three grandchildren, say they haven’t the heart to replace the roof for a third time.
“I can’t face the trauma and my insurance will go up. I will just have to pay for the repairs myself which will be at least £500. I want people to be aware that the hardtop thieves are back in Solihull,” added Carolyn.
