Water loss is no drop in the ocean

SEVERN Trent has said the drop in water use by businesses during the economic slump will hit its revenues hard.

SEVERN Trent has said the drop in water use by businesses during the economic slump will hit its revenues hard.

The company is predicting a year-on-year drop of up to £25 million because of a decline in metered consumption, driven mainly by commercial customers.

Finance director Mike McKeon said Severn Trent was seeing an impact from the collapse of retailers such as Woolworths and MFI as well as the downturn at manufacturers like Jaguar Land Rover.

The company provides water and sewerage services to more than 3.7 million homes and businesses in central England.
