SOLIHULL’S new Mayor and Mayoress come to the end of their first week in office today (Wednesday).
Councillor Norman Davies (Lib Dem, Olton) and his wife Brenda were inaugurated as the civic couple at Solihull Council’s annual meeting last week.
It will be quite a change for Cllr Davies - who has headed up the Liberal Democrat group since 2005 in the council chamber.
“It has been a very interesting time to be the leader,” he said.
“During the past few years we have grown from the third to the second biggest party on the council and so become the official opposition.
“Although I’ve enjoyed my time as leader I had no hesitation in accepting the position as mayor.”
Looking forward to a busy 12 months, the couple have said that pooling resources and looking forward will be the message they are trying to spread.
The pair follow on from Cllr David Bell (Con, Meriden) and wife Sally - who will now serve as deputy Mayor and Mayoress.
