THIS is an open letter to Lorely Burt. Please will she put a stop to this windfall business.
I am a widow on a pension. The cost of my power supply has gone from £60 per month to £120. I object to the thought that my extra charges are going to the Government to use as they will. If they want to help the elderly why not get some of this excess refunded!
I keep my heating down to 15 degrees in winter and off in summer and I am used to a cool house. When I go into large shops I find them so hot I have to leave.
They often have their doors open too to attract customers in (Tesco in Sheldon has a blast of heat just inside its open doors).
The fines levied on Severn Trent, because they are falling down on their duty to repair ancient water pipes, is another annoyance.
If they were to keep the money perhaps they could employ more workers and get the job done more quickly. I was in credit by £23 but was notified my monthly bill would go from £11.24 to £19.72 and when questioned they provided an explanation which was not convincing but summed up as "tough". I have three water butts and wash up once a day with warm water from 15 minutes of immersion heater first thing in the morning.
I will not discuss the raid on pensions which has caused so much grief but Dick Turpin has a lot to learn.
