Winter fun for festive lights

Solihull town centre holds its winter wonderland complete with snow, live reindeer and penguins and Father Christmas on Saturday November 17

Solihull town centre holds its winter wonderland complete with snow, live reindeer and penguins and Father Christmas on Saturday November 17.

Youngsters can meet CBeebies star Alex Winters and Postman Pat while Heart FM breakfast duo Ed James and Rachel New, will headline the family event. The day features a countdown to switching on the Christmas Lights which are funded by Solihull Business Improvement District in partnership with Solihull Council.

It marks the first time in several years there has been an organised event for the lights launch.

At 1pm Santa will be at Touchwood’s Manor Walk entrance to officially open his free grotto and children will be able to hop on board his sleigh to meet him, his reindeer and penguins.

Visitors can enjoy some festive delights from the centre’s top restaurants and listen to the Christmas choir at 3.45pm.

At Mell Square there will be an afternoon of fun, games, freebies, music and entertainment from the Heart FM breakfast show.

Apart from the special guests from CBeebies there will be a Harry Potter show to enjoy.

A parade along the High Street towards Mell Square, led by Father Christmas and his reindeer along with Shirley Pipe Band and more than 20 well-known children’s characters and stilt walkers handing out sweets and treats starts at 4.45pm.

Finally the lights switch-on takes place at 5pm.
