A WOMAN is in a critical condition this morning (Thursday) following a crash between a car and lorry on the motorway.
The collision happened on the northbound carriageway of the M42 - near junction 4 - at about 6.30am.
West Midlands Ambulance Service were called to the scene of the smash and said that at least one person had received serious injuries. Fire crews also attended.
A WMAS spokesman said: “It is not clear exactly what happened, but when crews arrived they found a woman lying in the motorway with multiple serious injuries.
“Two lorries had blocked off the motorway which allowed ambulance staff to work safely on the motorway.
“The doctor and crew worked on the woman at the scene before taking her on blue lights to Heartlands Hospital where medics were on standby. On arrival at hospital, she was described as being in a critical condition.”
After the smash, an exit sliproad at junction five was partially closed - because of debris.
Commuters faced a 50 minute delay and tailbacks to the M40 link at junction 3a.
