A FORMER abuse victim stole clothes to pay off an old drug debt, a court heard.

Rachael Loraine Rivers, 37, of Bluebell drive, Chelmsley Wood, pleaded guilty to stealing £118 worth of clothing from Asda in Chelmsley Wood when she appeared at Solihull Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Asma Majid, prosecuting, said that on June 20, the defendant selected baby clothes and concealed them under her coat.

But when she tried to leave, suspicious security staff stopped her and police arrested her.

The court heard she had also tested positive for cocaine.

David Whiting, defending, said: “Miss Rivers had an old debt. They insisted she paid immediately.”

Rivers, already on a community order from a different theft conviction in March, had her former order revoked and was handed a twelve month community and supervision order with a six months drugs rehabilitation requirement.
