A MAN has been arrested in connection with the death of a woman found in a secluded part of Sheldon Country Park.
The 38-year-old man was arrested early on Tuesday on suspicion of murder. A post-mortem examination revealed the woman had been strangled.
A dog walker discovered the body at about 12.45pm on Saturday in a brook at the country park.
The area is popular with dog walkers, so it is thought the woman’s body may only have been there for a day or two.
It was also not clear whether the spot was where she met her death or if she had been killed elsewhere and her body moved there.
Acting Det Supt Tim Bacon, from Force CID, said: “We urgently need to speak to anyone who was in Sheldon Country Park last Friday or Saturday.
“The woman’s body was discovered at around 12.45pm, however it is not clear at this stage when she may have died.
“The park would have been fairly busy during Saturday, and the area near to the brook is sometimes used as a cut-through from nearby streets.
“So we urge anyone who may have seen anything to come forward.”
Detectives believe she died some time on Friday or early Saturday.
The woman, in her thirties, was identified on Monday after a missing person’s report was filed with police.
More than 50 officers are working on the investigation, codenamed Operation Mineral.
Family liaison officers are supporting the woman’s family.
Witnesses or people with information are urged to contact Stechford police station on 0345 113 5000, or Crimestoppers hotline anonymously on 0800 555 111.
