BUILDING work on the Balsall Common Health Centre is expected to begin before the end of the year.
The new facility has been welcomed by many in the village, although some have raised concerns the site will eat into green belt..
Planning permission was granted last month and developer, Sapphire Primary Care Developments, is now carrying out surveys. Solihull NHS Care Trust anticipates the centre will be finished by the end of 2010.
Sally Burton, chief executive of Solihull NHS Care Trust, said: “We are delighted planning consent has been given for this exciting development for people living in and around Balsall Common.
“We have been working closely with the Balsall Common and Meriden Group Practice to replace the existing cramped GP surgery and the care trust clinic with this much needed, modern facility.”
The centre will occupy a spot on the corner of Hall Meadow Road and Station Road - near to the Brickmaker’s Arms public house. It will accommodate a number of different services under one roof, including a primary care centre, a pharmacy and a NHS dental suite.
Caroline Spelman, MP for Meriden, has also backed the scheme and claimed last month existing facilities were stretched to more than full capacity.
