THE recurring press criticism of the Solihull Highways Department for poor performance and incompetence is well deserved, with many examples of our money being wasted across the borough.
One of the problems is that few professional officers of the right calibre are attracted to the type of work available in Solihull MBC.
The applicants are just attracted by the inflated salaries on offer. These excessive salaries are necessary, just to get anyone at all to apply for the undemanding posts available.
The only area where these officers do excel is in ticking the right boxes to con the Government that they are performing well and manipulating our toy town councillors.
The solution is for Solihull to amalgamate with a neighbouring authority like Warwickshire that can offer a challenging career.
This would produce a better service with less staff and cheaper costs.
