ON Saturday, after an eight week programme of being coached in different bike skills by Solihull Cycling Club coaches, it was time for a group of young riders to test what they had learnt.
A special skills test laid down by British Cycling was set up at Tudor Grange Cycle Circuit and it had to be completed against the clock.
It is a complicated and difficult test to complete yet the children relished the challenge and performed extremely well, with some very good times.
They come from all over the borough and from as far away as Southam and they have improved tremendously since they first began their coaching with the club.
Having grasped these basic skills the children will now begin to expand their bike riding ability, including the task of building up stamina and endurance, so they will become prepared for the rigours of competition riding should they so wish. They will hopefully, at least, adopt the sport of cycling as a lifelong hobby to stay fit and healthy.
