Young make a clean sweep

THE borough’s young Conservatives have led a drive to clear up overgrowth and rubbish in Shirley.

THE borough’s young Conservatives have led a drive to clear up overgrowth and rubbish in Shirley.

Members of Solihull Conservative Future joined forces with activist Maggie Throup, Councillor Mark Parker and local resident Karen Grinsell last Saturday.

Ms Throup, who was impressed with their energy and enthusiasm, said: “I feel it is important to allow our youngsters to express their positive commitment to their communities.

“I am so delighted to see the youths of Solihull giving back to their neighbourhood and putting Big Society into action.”

It took the group of volunteers several hours to clear rubbish and over-run bushes and weeds by the communal garages on Blenheim Road.

Organiser and founder of the group Aminah Laiqah said: “It was great to be able to give something back to our community and prove that young people do care and hopefully we’ve inspired more to get involved.”
