Young urged to step out for annual run

YOUNGSTERS from across the Solihull area are being invited to run five miles to raise money for charity.

YOUNGSTERS from across the Solihull area are being invited to run five miles to raise money for charity.

The Knowle Fun Run will be taking place on May 16 and Dorridge Scout Group are challenging schools and clubs to enter teams.

These local groups can then compete for the Hunters Junior and Secondary team trophies.

Organisers, Knowle and Dorridge Lions, are keen to avoid a repeat of last year’s race, which saw the Junior and Secondary trophies go unclaimed as no full-team finished.

“For the first time last year we were surprised to find we could not award either trophy as we did not have a full team of four runners complete the five miles,” said organiser John Heard.

“This year we are publicising the team events and stress that they are open to all groups for any four runners who must all complete the five miles.”

With 1,500 of the 2,000 places already taken, and the deadline of 7 May looming, teams are urged to apply sooner rather than later to avoid disappointment.

Altogether there are 27 trophies up for grabs, with many other prizes for the winners of the various individual and team categories.

There are also prizes for the first boy and girl to complete the two Mini Runs, for under-nines, that will take place before the main run.
