Win sees Olton stand firm in second spot

In their final match of the season, Olton beat Solihull Blossomfield to hold on to second place in the WCL Premier Division.

Olton asked Blossomfield to bat and A Siefas and Bashir began steadily putting on 41 for the first wicket when Phil Ceillam had Seifas caught by Sykes.

Olton continued to take wickets at regular intervals to reduce Blossomfield to 117-6 when Weaver joined Sheraz Khan and together in the final nine overs adding 76 runs with Khan finishing unbeaten on 76 and Weaver 20. Earlier Olton had given 16 year old Nadim Chowdhury his first bowl in 1st XI cricket and he responded with two for 29.

Docker and Gately set Olton on their way with a 64 opening stand. However three quick wickets reduced them to 83-4 but Michael Ceillam(14), Scott Ellis (37*) and Jamie Hawkins (34*) saw Olton comfortably home.

Captain Sunil Vyakaranam said: “Our first task after last season’s relegation was to improve morale and confidence in the team and then build towards challenging for the title which we have done and now we can look forward with great confidence to next season.”
