THEY’VE toppled the league leaders, reached the semi final of the Birmingham Senior Cup for the first time and on Saturday Solihull Moors travel to lowly Blyth Spartans in a bid to continue what has become a sparkling run.
However manager Marcus Bignot is keeping his feet firmly on the ground: “Blyth may be second from bottom but we’ll prepare for that game in precisely the same way as we prepared for Hyde, who are top of the league - and hopefully we will get the same result.”
Against Hyde the visitors took the game to the home side right from the off. Solihull were content to sit back and soak up the pressure and break hard and fast when opportunity arose.
In the second half Hyde tried to up their game, but Solihull’s defensive four of Midworth, Pierpiont, Spencer and Langdon held firm.
Then when Lee Morris was brought down in the box, Ryan Beswick made no mistake. Solihull’s game plan had worked perfectly and the Moors fully deserved the points.
On Tuesday night in a fast and furious Birmingham Senior Cup tie Bignot rotated his squad away at Rushall Olympic.
Olympic started by far the brighter but as they ran out of steam Solihull began to dominate, Jordan Fitzpatrick getting the vital goal after the keeper let the ball run under his body and into the net.
“It’s definitely been rewarding,” said Bignot, “and to win on Tuesday was the icing on the cake.”
