Whitchurch 4 Yardley 0
WITH the weather playing havoc with the fixture list for the second week running, Yardley’s game against the league leaders in the ENER-G MRHA West Midlands Division 2 managed to go ahead.
Travelling with the bare bones of a fit team, Yardley were always going to be up against it with their high flying hosts. Indeed it was the home side who started the brighter although their first goal came from a miss-hit shot that was deflected inside the far post.
Yardley’s keeper Neal Makepeace was always the busier of the two and was called upon to make several excellent saves to keep his team in the game.
He could not prevent a well taken solo effort from the left to increase Whitchurch’s lead.
Two further goals completed the scoring for Whitchurch before half time.
The second half continued with Whitchurch pressure being stoutly defended by Paul Jarvis, Matthew Bartlett and Martin Curtice particularly in the Yardley defence.
Although they lost the game, a valiant second half performance showed the strength of Yardley’s team spirit. This week they will hope for better as they entertain Ludlow.
