Berkswell & Balsall 19 Banbury 8
AN opening try from Phil Allport and two penalty-tries were enough to give Berkswell victory but fail to get a bonus point in this slightly flat Midlands West 2 (South) game.
B’s kicked off down the slope and the first ten minutes were spent in the Banbury half. It was little surprise when the home side scored after 12 minutes through Allport. The conversion was just short.
The B’s pack notched the second try as they drove a scrum over the Banbury try-line, Sam Bignall kicking the conversion.
A silly offside gave Banbury three points.
Both sides were poor at the start of the second half. There was a brief period where the visitors were in command but Berkswell held firm. Then, in the 69th minute, B’s virtually sealed the game with their third try. The referee gave Berkswell a scrum and the move was illegally halted before Galpin could touch down. Berkswell’s second penalty try was the result, with another Bignall conversion.
Within two minutes Banbury scored a try of their own, the conversion going wide. Berkswell, knowing a fourth try would provide a bonus league point, spent the remaining eight minutes in Banbury territory but to the credit of the visitor’s defence, they couldn’t engineer a way through.
