CHAMPION jump jockey Tony McCoy delighted his many fans with a sparkling 740-1 treble at Warwick races on New Year’s Eve.
He gained his first success on the David Pipe-trained Leo’s Lucky Star in a beginners’ chase, riding a waiting race to beat the favourite, Quartz De Thaix, who spoiled his chances by jumping sloppily.
McCoy rode another canny race on Afistfullofpebbles to take a handicap chase over just over two and a half miles, and finished his winning spree with Prince Geeno - again for Pipe - in a handicap hurdle.
The cheering after each victory became louder and louder - and the Irishman finished second in his two other rides to wrap up a fine afternoon’s performance in the saddle.
The sticky conditions found out many of the more fancied runners and only one favourite won, Rebeccas Choice in a conditional jockeys’ hurdle, which was well ridden by young Peter Toole.
The next meeting at Warwick is on Saturday, January 16. First race 12.30pm.
