It was another day of disappointment for Berkswell as they returned from Barnt Green having suffered a four wicket defeat by the Worcestershire side.
Losing the toss, the visitors were invited to bat first and the Berkswell batsmen found run scoring difficult on an unpredictable wicket.
In the tenth over Phil Neale (10) was caught behind with the score on 20, seven overs later James Neale (9) was bowled, and in the 19th over Mohammed Akhlaq (4) was also bowled with the scoreboard only showing 29 runs.
Tom Lewis and skipper Dominic Ostler battled hard for the next 15 overs to come to terms with the wicket, and the elements as light rain fell, but having also had a 20 minute break for rain the pair had moved the total to 76 when Lewis (20) lost his wicket.
In their reply Barnt Green lost an early wicket but recovered to reach their target.
A worried Dominic Ostler said: “This was a game we considered we could win and losing the toss had a big influence on the outcome of the game, but I can’t put all the blame on the wicket. Once again we made wrong shot decisions when batting and then didn’t bowl with enough conviction to take match winning wickets. If we continue like this we’ll be dragged into the battle to avoid relegation and that will add additional unnecessary pressure on us.
“On Saturday we are at home and take on Shrewsbury who are racing away at the top of the league so we need to up our game if we are to get a positive result and move away from the relegation zone.”
