Earlswood Town made the short journey to The Coppice in Tythe Barn Lane for this mid-week pre-season friendly against Highgate United. Earls took a squad of 18, many of whom were new signings, as well as the majority of last season’s team.
The hosts took the lead in the fifth minute through prolific scorer Lei Brown’s opportunist’s goal. But as Earls settled, they created some good chances and could have quite easily equalised with wide men John Flanagan and Bradley Hall both creating a number of chances.
With both defences on top, the game was a close affair with the Highgate keeper making a couple of good saves to preserve their lead.
Earls, with a bit of luck in front of goal, could have drawn level but as the second half went on, Highgate took the initiative and after 70 minutes Brown netted his second goal.
Shortly after, Earls lost Andy Rowe who had to go to hospital with a dislocated shoulder. As the home team took control, they added to their total four minutes from the end.
Earlswood Town 2 Causeway United 2
Earlswood entertained Midland Premier League team Causeway United on Saturday, the team who knocked them out of the FA Vase 1-0 last season and then went on to reach the quarter-finals.
Earlswood took the initiative and Ralph Richardson netted two good long-range goals, both into the top corner of the net. Causeway had chances to reduce the arrears but could not find the finishing touch.
The visitors came back into it in the second half and reduced the arrears with a penalty, and snatched an equaliser ten minutes from time to give them a share of the spoils.
FRIENDLIES: August 2: Smithswood (Sedgemere 3pm); August 5: Solihull Red Diamonds (Malt House Lane 6.45pm).
