Knowle had the chance to avenge last week’s defeat by visitors Kenilworth Town KH in the first round of the Les James Challenge Cup – and avenge it they did!
It was the wily Grant Harrison who had the first of many Knowle chances with a delightful header just wide of the post.
Tom Craine and Matt Botley combined well and were too lively for Kenilworth.
Mike Lys crafted a superb through-ball for Craine to chase but the visiting keeper parried a tremendous effort.
After increasing Knowle dominance first Caine, Botley and then Perks were denied by Pearson, who went on to stop a double effort from Callum Mallet. Knowle finally broke the deadlock on the half hour mark with a rocket from top scorer Botley. A break down the left saw Harrison deliver a through ball for Botley which sat up for him to unleash a screamer from 25 yards. On the stroke of half time Kenilworth equalised when an innocuous free kick bounced through to the far post where it was tapped home. After half time Knowle continued their siege but it was substitute Torryn Connelly who gave Knowle a goal with a brilliant header from Craine’s pin- point cross. Knowle wrapped up their place in the next round when Pearson brought down Craine in the box.
