Coleshill Town 1 Highgate United 3
THIS was a much needed win for a Highgate side who came out on top of this local derby.
Three goals in the space of ten minutes saw Gate recover from a disappointing opening 40 minutes to march on for what turned out to be a more than comfortable win over their mid table opposition.
Gate started poorly conceding after just six minutes when former Highgate player Chris Gummery came back to haunt his old club, scrambling the ball home at the far post off Michael Williams’ low driven cross.
Unable to force their way back into the game Gate were fortunate to keep the deficit to a single goal, the unexpected equaliser coming five minutes before the break when totally against the run of play a Trevor Edwards’ cross found its way to Ian Mitchell who made no mistake with a crisp 15 yard strike hit well beyond keeper Ian Kimberley’s reach.
Four minutes later the visitors edged in front, Scott Turner heading in after Craig Gasziewski’s well struck free kick had come back to the Highgate captain off the woodwork.
A better second half saw Gate increase their lead early on when five minutes after the break Matt Collins despatched an unstoppable volley high into the net.
A third goal transformed the far more positive visitors who despite further chances being few and far between enjoyed the better of second half exchanges as they went on to extend their unbeaten league run to three games.
On Saturday Highgate visit Boldmere St Michaels (3pm)
