Highgate United 3 Bridgnorth Town 0
GATE earned three valuable points which lifted them off the bottom of the table above Ellesmere Rangers in the battle against relegation.
An outstanding first half performance laid the foundation for what turned out to be a comfortable win over the sixth placed visitors.
Gate got off to the perfect start when Ollie Casey played the ball through for DJ Pitt to cut in and beat keeper Chris Crooks with a lob high into the far top corner after just three minutes.
Centre half Dan Dineen then saw his 20 yard free kick beat the keeper only to come back off the underside of the bar.
A tug on Pitt led to the second goal on the stroke of half time, the keeper spilling Dineen’s free kick into the path of Andy Fraher who made no mistake.
The second half was a somewhat scrappy affair and Gate held out for victory.
The result carried on the fighting spirit Gate had shown against Boldmere St Michael last Saturday. They went 4-0 to The Mikes but battled back to 4-3, DJ Pitt (2) and Matt Seeley scoring.
