Coleshill Town 1 Highgate Utd 1
A WIN was needed to guarantee they avoided relegation and this draw took Highgate’s fate out of their own hands, but fellow strugglers Atherstone’s 4-1 defeat at Westfields mean that a relieved Gate live to fight what will be a fifth consecutive MFA campaign.
Windy conditions and a heavy pitch ensured such a crucial game never reached any great heights but battling Highgate looked the better, deserving more than just a point for their efforts, particularly late on when they peppered the home goal in search of the elusive winner.
Manager Keith Checketts had shuffled his back line, Dan Dineen moving alongside Simon Bradbury at the heart of defence with Dan Povey and Ollie Casey filling the two full back berths.
Against the run of play Gate found themselves behind after 38 minutes and knowing there was all to do in the second half they attacked in numbers.
The sending off of Steve Harknes for a second yellow card gave Gate a man advantage and they were to make the most of it, Karl King heading in the equaliser five minutes from time.
Another King header was directed a foot off target with Jamie Corrigan and Edwards both missing late chances but thanks to the result at Westfield a draw was to prove sufficient to ensure the visitors survived, finishing two points clear of the automatic relegation places.
