SOLIHULL Barons went out of the ENIHL Cup at the weekend despite a battling display against higher league opposition.
The Barons faced Blackburn Hawks at Solihull Ice Rink and for much of the first period more than matched their opponents. After drawing the first period 3-3, the Barons took the lead early in the second but failed to take advantage of some power plays, even conceding short hand goals.
As the players tired in the second period Blackburn showed their difference in class and started to pull away from the Barons. At the end of the third and final period the Hawks won 11-5.
“It was a bit of a wake up call - if we do get promoted we will need to up our game,” said John Butler, the club’s chairman.
* On Sunday, December 20, Barons hold their Annual Charity Match against Baron Legends, for Birmingham Children’s Hospital. Action starts from 4.15pm and admission is £5 for adults and children go free.
