FA Cup 2nd Qualifying Round
Solihull Moors 2 Loughborough Dynamo 0
TWO goals from Danny Spencer saw Solihull progress to the next round of the FA Cup on Saturday.
Moors outclassed their opponents from the Evo-Stick Northern Premier League South, but still squandered numerous good chances.
Solihull were awarded a penalty after Junior English was brought down in the area, only for Richard Walker to shoot wide.
Eventually Andre Francis, playing wide on the right, sent over a peach of a cross for Spencer to head home.
His second goal – a back-heel into the net at a goal mouth scramble – came just before the hour mark.
Moors manager Marcus Bignot said: “The result was the most important thing.
“Solihull traditionally haven’t done very well in the cup. It was nice to get that first FA Cup win as a manager.
“The only negative was that we should have scored more goals and put it to bed by half-time.
“We didn’t convert as much as we should have done.
“The most difficult part of football is putting the ball in the back of the net.”
Ryan Beswick made his return from injury when he came on as a substitute with twelve minutes of the match remaining.
He and fellow sub Steve Jackson ran Dynamo ragged but Loughborough were nearly gifted a goal when Karl Broadhurst fluffed an easy clearance.
Tomorrow (Saturday) Moors host Droylsden in the Blue Square Bet North (3.00pm).
Bignot added: “We are having a little run of form. Five out of six games have had clean sheets.
“We’re looking to continue that. Hopefully that will be three points in front of the home fans.”
