MOST Sunday league teams are delighted to be sponsored by a local business.
Having the front of their shirts embroidered with a nearby company in exchange for them putting up the money for kits.
Sheldon Royals U7s took a slightly different path as their new sponsor is a five-year-old boy named Joshua.
Joshua has duchenne muscular dystrophy, a degenerative muscle condition, and has a charity, Joshua’s Fund, that supports him.
After receiving fantastic support for the charity, Joshua has decided to give something back to the community and support the local football team.
Carol Lee, from Joshua’s Fund, explained how the sponsorship could help raise awareness of the condition and would also give the team a cause to rally around.
After a training session last week, Joshua went along to present the kits to the team, and it was immediately obvious he wanted to do more than just sponsor the side.
Overcoming some initial shyness Joshua soon got involved in a kick around with the team.
“Although he’ll never be able to play a match with the team, he loves having a kickabout in training, and watching the team play,” Carol explained. “I don’t think we have ever seen him run for so long or for so far, with such obvious enjoyment and pleasure, he didn’t want to leave.”
